Common questions

Applying

How long does the application take?

About 3 minutes. The form has three steps: About You, Verify Profile (credit + bank), and Review & Submit. We save your progress automatically.

What information do I need to apply?
  • Your full name, date of birth, and Social Security Number (for the soft credit pull).
  • Your current address and how long you have lived there.
  • Employment status and monthly income.
  • Employment and income details (paystubs or W-2 may be requested after you lock an offer).
Will applying hurt my credit?

No. We perform a soft credit inquiry to match you with lenders. Soft inquiries do not affect your credit score and are not visible to other creditors who pull your report later.

What happens after I submit?

Your application is shared with lenders in our network who match your profile. You will see your first offers in your dashboard, typically within 4 to 24 hours. We email and text you the moment offers arrive.

Credit & Verification

Who pulls my credit report?

Auto Loan Pro performs the initial soft pull through Equifax. Lenders may perform a hard inquiry only after you accept and lock an offer — never before.

What documents are required after I lock an offer?

You will be asked to upload a government-issued ID and recent paystubs (or W-2). Your lender reviews these before issuing your final approval letter.

Offers

How are lenders matched to me?

We share your application (with your consent) only with lenders whose underwriting criteria match your credit profile, income, vehicle preferences, and location. Lenders compete for your business.

How long are offers valid?

Most lender offers remain valid for 7 days from the time they are issued. After 7 days, the lender may require updated information or re-pricing.

What does "locking" an offer mean?

Locking reserves the offer with that specific lender. You will have 7 days to upload remaining documents (ID, proof of income, insurance, etc.). The lender then verifies your documents, completes final underwriting, and issues your approval letter.

Can I change my mind after locking?

Yes. As long as your approval letter has not been issued, you can withdraw and lock a different offer from your dashboard. Contact ALP Support before withdrawing — there may be alternatives.

Approval Letter

What is the approval letter?

The approval letter is the document that gives you leverage at the dealership. It states the maximum amount you are pre-approved to borrow, your APR, term, monthly payment, vehicle restrictions, and the lender. You walk into the dealer already pre-funded — they cannot change your APR or terms.

How long is my approval letter valid?

Approval letters are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. If you need more time, contact ALP Support before it expires and we can request an extension from your lender.

What vehicles does my approval letter cover?

Each approval letter includes specific vehicle restrictions — typically: maximum age (default 8 years), maximum mileage (default 80,000 miles), allowed types (new and used), and excluded titles (no salvage, rebuilt, or flood titles). Check your specific letter for the exact terms.

What if a dealer pressures me to finance through them instead?

Walk away. Your approval letter is a binding pre-approval with your lender. Some dealers earn commission by routing you to their preferred lender — that conflict of interest is not in your favor. Your APR and terms are locked.

What do I bring to the dealer?
  • Your approval letter (PDF — save it to your phone or print it).
  • A valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Proof of full-coverage auto insurance (most lenders require this at purchase).
  • Any other items the dealer or lender specifies in your stipulations.

Privacy & Security

Do you sell my information?

No. We only share your application with the lenders you match with. We never sell your data to advertisers or third parties.

How is my data protected?

All data is transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections. Sensitive fields (SSN, bank tokens) are encrypted at rest. Our infrastructure is hosted on SOC 2-compliant cloud providers.

How do I delete my account?

You can request account deletion from your dashboard settings. Note that information you submitted to lenders may be retained by them per their own retention policies (typically 5-7 years for regulatory compliance).

Declined Applications

What if no lender approves me?

You will receive an adverse action notice explaining the specific reasons. The notice also explains your rights under the FCRA, including a free credit report within 60 days. You can reapply after 30 days.

How can I improve my chances of approval?
  • Pay down credit card balances — utilization is one of the biggest factors in your score.
  • Avoid new credit applications for at least 6 months.
  • Make sure your credit report is accurate. Dispute any errors with the reporting agency.
  • Provide proof of consistent income through uploaded paystubs or a W-2.
